After a long wait since the quarter-final, the Coláiste Cholmcille girls travelled to Irvinestown Bawnacre to face Breifne College, Cavan, in their Ulster semi-final. CCBS took control of the game from the start, with some excellent scores from Katie McMahon and Ciara Larkin.
The Cavan girls never stopped working hard to stay within reach of CCBS, but our strong back-line defence of Mairead Murphy and Katie McGowan kept them away from shooting opportunities. Emily McNamee and Cadhla Gillespie worked exceptionally well in supporting the defence and delivering quality ball into the half-forward line. The half-time score stood at 2–7 to 1–2 in favour of CCBS.
Despite CCBS holding a comfortable lead, the Cavan girls came out strongly in the second half and registered the first three scores before CCBS responded. Rachel Gillespie, Andrea M., and Grace McNelis Lee applied excellent pressure on the kick-outs, turning over possession and converting it into scores.
The full-time score was 2–13 to 1–6, securing Coláiste Cholmcille’s place in yet another Ulster Final. The final is set for the 8th of January when the team returns after the Christmas holidays.
Well done to all the girls, and to Mrs Coleman and Mr Kenny for their hard work.
