What is a Prefect?
A Prefect is a senior student who is given a position of responsibility within the school community. Prefects play an important leadership role in promoting the values, standards, and positive atmosphere of the school. They act as role models for other students and help to ensure that the school remains a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment for all.
Becoming a Prefect is both an honour and a responsibility. Prefects are chosen for their maturity, reliability, and commitment to the ethos of Coláiste Cholmcille. The position provides an excellent opportunity for students to develop leadership, communication, and teamwork skills that will benefit them in school and in their future lives.
Key Roles and Responsibilities of a Prefect
Prefects at Coláiste Cholmcille may be involved in a variety of duties, including:
- Leadership and Role Modelling: Setting a positive example for younger students through good behaviour, attendance, and attitude.
- Supporting School Events: Assisting at school functions such as open days, parent evenings, and assemblies.
- Mentoring and Peer Support: Helping new or younger students to settle into school life and promoting a sense of inclusion and respect.
- Communication: Acting as a link between students and staff, representing student voices and helping to promote positive change.
- Promoting School Values: Encouraging cooperation, kindness, and responsibility throughout the school community.
- Maintaining Standards: Helping to uphold school rules and contributing to a positive learning environment.
